Everyone has their own New Year's Resolutions and I've come up with a set of separate resolutions for my style.
1). Accessorize More
I wear tights and socks a lot and some scarves, but accessorizing has never been my forte. I want to take this year and buy more jewelry and little accessories to make my outfits pop.
2). Invest in Basics
I tend to buy things that stand out to me, which means they have details that make them stand alone pieces. So, rarely do I invest in basic pieces that can be versatile, like a good pair of dress pants and basic sweaters.
3). Learn How to do Make-up
Although, make-up and fashion tend to go hand-in-hand, I definitely consider myself a make-up novice. So, this year I'm going to buy good make-up and teach myself how to apply it. So, I have a plethora of options for when I go out, instead of doing the same old thing.

"If you look for perfection, you'll never be content. "
-Leo Tolstoy, Anna Karenina
I recently watched the trailer for the new Anna Karenina movie and was inspired by the fashion. I really love this era. I thought I'd share my take and modern fashion equivalents, for Anna Karenina's bold fashion statements.
Although fur was for more function than fashion in bitter cold Russia, it still makes a bold statement and is a prominent piece in these movies.

Although, I'm not a huge proponent of fur, even if it is fake, I tried to find my favorite faux fur pieces (try saying that five times fast). So, I found a feather fur vest from Express and a cute circular fur scarf from ASOS.
Classic Jewelry
Keira Knightley is ornamented with many bold and classic necklaces throughout the film.
My equivalent is this multiple strand necklace from Forever21.
Hats
The intricate hats featured in Anna Karenina are phenomenal. I love hats to begin with.
I know these hats are a little out there, but I love them. The top hat on the right is from ASOS and the dress hat on the left is from Macy's. And they're both reminiscent of the time period.

For me, jewelry is the last thing I'm willing to spend my money on. So, I've boiled it down to 3 basic types of necklaces that every jewelry box should have to make the most of your accessories and outfits.
1. The Big and Bold Necklace
This type of necklace is an essential. I suggest picking a necklace in either a silver, gold or black to increase the versatility of it. It's perfect for going out and can be easily used to make a statement. These can be worn with something as casual as a blazer and skinny jeans to something as formal as a dress. It can turn a regular outfit into a head turning one.
2. A Long Pendant Necklace

Again with these you may want to choose a neutral color. These go with virtually anything. They can go over a big sweater or a casual dress. This accessory is never overpowering, but can make your outfit all the more interesting.
3. The Simple Yet Elegant Necklace
These smaller elegant necklaces are great and I can wear them anywhere. I wear them to work or with just a t-shirt and jeans. They just added a little sparkle to an every day outfit.
