Hello! I’m Anna’s cousin, Sidney, who will be a guest blogger for the moment as she is very busy! I hope you’ll bear with me, as I’m not as good of a fashion blogger as she is, but I’ll try my best! X As Fashion Week keeps rolling on, debuting high-end fashion’s latest styles, you’ll start to see more affordable chain brands are starting to transition into fall wear and putting them on the racks. Although the summer heat is still going strong, it’s always best to hit the mall when the newest looks are out on display! (You’ll wear that sweater in two weeks; don’t worry about whether you’ll be wearing it tomorrow!) So, how can you incorporate some of the new fall trends into your style?
Military
Military trend always comes back full speed during the fall! The army greens, camo, and gold embellishments adorn just about everything you see in the stores. Scared to test out such a look? Incorporate military-inspired pieces slowly – stick a pin like this one, from Forever 21, onto a jacket to give it a bit of edge!
Another trend that comes around each season is uniform-inspired looks. Although this fad could get a bit drab as the years roll on, this season the studious clothes have been given a bit of edge! The best thing to keep in mind with trying to wear these pieces is to avoid looking Clueless, 90’s prep. Thankfully, so long as your wardrobe consists of a little bit of edge or more modern pieces, you’re safe with these staples! Cute pieces to look out for include elbow-pad sweaters, polka dot or striped trousers, thigh highs, pleated skirts, and oxfords!
These two trends are classic fall attire, but with the proper styling can be taken to a whole new level! Metallic accessories and clothes are still popular and selling in stores – incorporating a stylish, modern trend such as this ups the level of chic in a wardrobe with classic pieces. Mess around with tights, socks, skirts, and best of all – jackets and sweaters! This season mess around with minimal and layered jewelry. The best part about fall clothes is the experimental aspects that come with each garment. So feel free to test your style to your heart’s content – hopefully, one of these trends will become a part of your daily style!
With spring nearly here (even though in Michigan it's impossible to tell), I figured I'd throw together my guide on how to master pastels like a boss.
Pastels and Neutrals:
If you're afraid of pastels, never fear! Obviously, everything goes well with neutrals including pastels. My only suggestion is to shy away from bright white. I'd suggest an off white instead.
Pastels and Brights:
If you're looking to be a little more daring, then here is my suggestion. Create an outfit with mostly pastels and neutrals. Then choose one thing (bag, shoes) to be your color pop to tie the outfit together.
Side note: When accessorizing go for gold jewelry as opposed to silver.
Pastels and Pastels:
Yo, dawg! I heard you like pastels. So, I put some pastels on your pastels! Normal rules for color coordination don't apply to pastels. Normally, I wouldn't pair a blue with a purple, but you can do that with pastels.
As for me, this is what I chose (and yes it is blizzarding out):
Alright, guys. So, this a very exciting day for me because it is full of firsts. For example, in this post I'm finally able to use pictures of my own outfit for the first time, which is really exciting for me. You guys will get an idea of my aesthetic.
Myth #2:
Black and Brown don't go together.
For the longest time I had always followed this unspoken rule of fashion religiously. It was only recently that I realized it's not the case. Although, this rule can be broken it does come with restrictions. For example, the easiest way to pull this off is to do black with brown accessories or shoes. This looks the best and that way, even though you're "violating" this rule you can still look good.
Yay! First picture of my very own. Here, as you can see I did black jeggings and brown oxford shoes. Usually, you want to go with more of a cognac type brown, as opposed to chocolate because it's already close to black. The contrast of black and cognac is really cool. It doesn't have to be shoes, you can always do black with a brown belt or vice versa, whatever works for you. Moral of the story is, don't be afraid to mix these two colors because as you can see they don't clash.
Fall is definitely a good time for mixing black brown because it's easier to pair with more subtle tones that are indicative of fall fashion.
MYTH BUSTED!

Alright, guys. So, I've done my research and I've found some designers that are designing for more affordable stores, which is awesome. Especially, for me since I'm a poor college kid, who works at Kohl's. Speaking of Kohl's, the first designer up for discussion is Narciso Rodriguez designing for Kohl's. They are launching something similar to what target does, which is a limited edition collection by the name of DesigNation. So, here's a glimpse at what it's going to look like and sources report that it will be making it's debut in November of this year.
Hopefully, this gives you a feel for Narciso Rodriguez's design aesthetic that will be merging with Kohl's. It's very different and now made affordable with prices ranging from (30$-150$).
The next designer I found merging with a more affordable company is Maison Martin Margiela, who happens to be merging with H&M this coming season. H&M announced that the collection will be hitting stores November 15th of this year. Not only will there be a women's collection in this case, but a men's collection as well.
Unfortunately, this is the best preview I can find. However, between Margiela and H&M I think they will produce a phenomenal collection.
A classic favorite of mine that happens to be in this season is the Moto Jacket. Because they are so popular there are so many styles and colors to choose from, than just a black moto jacket. I have perused stores and online shopped until I found my favorites. And here they are:
This Moto Jacket from Delias is a refreshing twist on a classic piece. It has lace sleeves to make it stand out.
This Moto Jacket by Candie's from Kohl's is done in a light pink tweed, which is perfect for someone with a little more girly style.
This Moto Jacket from Forever 21 is one of my favorites. The stud detailing on the lapel makes it different and very versatile.
There are a lot of little tricks to learn when taking an outfit from day to night. The biggest one of these little tricks is accessorizing. Accessorizing is an integral part of an outfit especially when you're dressing appropriately for the time of day. You have to be conscious of your jewelry, hair, purse and your shoe choice in order to make an outfit work for whatever occasion. Here is a visual:
1. Shoes
Here is a very basic dress. If you're dressing for day to night you always want to consider your shoes.
For Day:
Try a pair of basic flats, depending on the dress and how adventurous you're feeling on that day. It makes it work appropriate, as well as school appropriate without looking too overdone.
For Night:
Try a nice pair of wedges or cute heels to pair with the dress. It will make your dress come alive at night.
2. Jewelry
Another thing to be cognizant of when dressing from day to night is jewelry.
For Day:
Daintier jewelry is better to be worn for the day to make your outfit look a little more subdued, like this rhinestone bow necklace.
ForNight:
This peter pan collar necklace is perfect big statement jewelry for night time.
3. Purse/satchel
What you carry is imperative to your look for day to night.
For Day:
For day a satchel or crossbody bag like this one works best.
For Night:
For night try a refined satchel. Something a little less busy and simple. Clutches also work perfectly for night.
4. Other Accessories For Day:
Add a belt!
For Night:
Add tights! Also great for Fall coming up and Winter.
I am incredibly excited for this upcoming season of fall fashion. I've been browsing and came up with the main fashion points that designers and stores have been focusing on, to help keep you in style. A lot of what is in this season lines up with my own personal style and I'm ecstatic about it. PATTERN: POLKA DOTS
A new trend this spring/summer is the pastel. And as we approach fall, I've noticed that this trend will continue into the new season. So, to stay in style, below are ways to make sure you're wearing your pastels the best way possible:
This pastel blazer with a pair of skinny jeans
and flats is a perfect every day look.
Mixing pastels together is a great way to make
an interesting outfit. Here, the outfit is paired with
a pair of bright pumps that give the outfit a little pop.
Basic pastel tops, like this pink one
are perfect for wearing with skirts or jeans.
A pastel bag is a perfect accent for most outfits and a good
piece for every wardrobe.
Blake Lively always looks amazing in everything she wears. Her style tends to be trendier and, clearly it works for her.
2. Chloe Moretz:
Although, she's young, Chloe Moretz, has become a staple among the fashion community. She rocks a lot of old fashion style with a modern twist, that give her a very interesting look.
3. Lauren Conrad:
Lauren Conrad has written two books on style and designs two different clothing lines. She dresses to match her success. Her girly style fits her girl next store look.
Printed shorts are very popular this season. With all the different patterns they can fit anyone's style. You can get a regular denim pair with a floral pattern or a high-waisted chiffon pair with polka dots. It all depends on what fits your personal style. Below there are a pair of LC Lauren Conrad polka dot shorts from Kohl's, floral print denim shorts from Target and bright tribal print shorts from American Eagle
2. The Colored Short
These shorts have become especially popular this season. They're great for color blocking and you can also pair them with neutrals, which makes them especially versatile. They come in every color from subdued, to neon, to pastel. So, whatever your favorite color pallet is, you can find a pair for you. Here we have a pair of cut-off shorts from American Eagle the are a more subdued burgundy, and a pair of neon pink shorts from Nordstrom and a pair of short pastel orange from Urban Outfitters.
